I've got a confession.
A few weeks ago when I was in California there was a scrapbook convention at the hotel my family was staying at. My sister and I joked that I should go in and join in on the fun. I hotly replied: "Heck NO. I am not a scrap-booker." I am a hard-core athlete. Who has time to sit around and scrapbook when there are yards to be swimming and roads to be ridden.
Chris interrupted. Do you have a journal? Ummm, yes. Do you cut things out and tape them in there? Ummm, yes. Do you put stickers in it? Ummmm, yes. Are there photos in there? Ummm, yes. How about inspirational emails or quotes?
I guess this means I have a scrapbook. I am still in denial.
It started in 2006 with my weekly planner. You can tell that triathlon took more and more importance in my life as my weekly "plans" evolved into me logging my favorite workouts of the week. Then I wrote down some goals to look at each day. It turned out to be pretty comical when I started working with Coach Lance. I photocopied the entire calendar and faxed all 80 pages to him to show him my previous year of training. Thats right - 80 pages faxed to Canada. The things we do for Coach. Good thing I use Training Peaks now!
In 2007 I decided to quit my day job and take this scrapbook thing a bit more seriously. I started keeping track of my favorite sessions that left me smashed each week. I also added in key things like some pace charts and motivational pre-race emails and notes from Coach, friends, and family.
I feel I mastered the art of scrap booking in 2008. I carried that book with me everywhere and filled it with any tidbit of information that would help me train, race, or perform better. Before key workouts, races, during tough times, seeking some motivation... all I had to do was open that book for a trip down memory lane. Nothing like glancing back and remembering that time I rode the trainer for 4 hours at significant watts.
So - there you have it. I like to bake. I enjoy naps. I'm addicted to the Break Espresso. I like to scrap book. And, my favorite band of the week is Vampire Weekend.
Boise or Bust!!! See you there.
